Original Militaria from the Great Escape – Stalag Luft III – For Sale

The items for Sale comprise of two lots that belonged to F/LT Raymond Keen of the RAF’s 78 Bomber Squadron – His Y.M.C.A. Wartime Log and RAF Flying Log Book, and his medals.

After his aircraft (W7931) was shot down on a bombing raid over Duisburg, F/LT Raymond Keen arrived in Stalag Luft III in the spring of 1943. Assigned to the historic Hut 122 (Tunnel Dick) in the North Compound, he soon became involved as a penguin and stooge in the preparations for The Great Escape. As an officer, he took part in the drawing of lots for the hard-arsers, the second batch of escapees, though did not manage to secure a place. Instead, on the night of The Great Escape, he witnessed events as they unfolded and chronicled them in what in the weeks that followed became a secret written narrative called The Tunnel, a real-time, blow-by-blow telling of those momentous few hours.

Such items with proven provenance to the historic North Compound of Stalag Luft III and The Great Escape are exceedingly rare and seldom seen on public sale. For Militaria Collectors around the world this is an opportunity to own authentic artifacts from one of the most legendary episodes of World War II, The Great Escape.
