Stalag Luft III Great Escape Medals for Sale

Original set of medals belonging to F/LT R W Keen of the RAF’s 78 Squadron, whose Halifax II bomber (W7931)  was shot down on a bombing raid over Duisburg on 26th March, 1943. Days later, he found himself imprisoned in the North Compound of Stalag Luft III. His new home was the historic Hut 122, the location of Tunnel Dick, and he soon became  involved in the preparations for The Great Escape. Within his Y.M.C.A Wartime Log is one of, if not the earliest, surviving account of the night of 24 March, 1944 – the night of The Great Escape.

The medals group consists of: Air Crew Europe Star, 1939-45 Star, Defence Medal and 1939-1945 War Medal.

Also included in the Sale is a copy of the private and extremely rare publication Spotlight on Stalag Luft III by Scangriff (1946), which features illustrations of the escape preparations by Len Kenyon.
